Patrice Vansteenberghe

Patrice Vansteenberghe is the owner of the estate and is passionate about the chateau, which hosts wedding receptions and special events. In the 1980s, Patrice rented out Vallery during the summer months, when it was very run-down. Local guidebooks described it as "the remains of a ruin of a great castle". These ruins became a real obsession for him, and all he dreamt of was acquiring them.
This dream came true in 1990. Patrice, who remains the architect for Kenzo, Christian DIOR, Virgin, etc., is now working on its meticulous restoration. Vallery has always stood out to him as an emblematic chateau in the history of the French Renaissance. Four Kings of France stayed there. And its name is often mentioned in the 7 volumes of the Duc D'Aumale's memoirs. The princes and princesses of Condé, cousins of the Kings of France, all asked to be laid to rest in the church of Vallery.
The chateau and its gardens also form the backdrop to Madame de la Fayette's love story of the Princesse de Clèves. From an architectural point of view, Vallery, which was initially attributed to Philibert de l'Orme, is revealed by recently discovered documents to be the work of Pierre Lescot, who was building the Cour Carrée in the Louvre.

Jacques Androuet du Cerceau, draughtsman and engraver, published the most famous architectural work of the Renaissance, in which 5 plates are devoted to Vallery: "Les plus excellents bastiments de France". A 2-volume book published in 1576 and again in 1579 containing 188 engravings of 30 exceptional buildings in the Île-de-France region and around the Loire. For Vallery, it was a royal privilege to appear in a work that included drawings and perspectives of the Palais du Louvre, Fontainebleau, Blois, Chenonceau, the Tuileries and elsewhere!
Patrice Vansteenberghe undertook the restoration of this building in 1990 with great respect and the help of the Historic Monuments Office. He then devoted himself passionately to the chateau's clientele.
Over the years, Patrice has built up "the fabulous team at the chateau" - supervisors, stage managers, stewards, those in charge of fire nights, and so on. All happy to help you with your bridal arrangements, they make the content of this website and its French-language blog "le château de la mariée" entirely available to you. They are always ready to listen to couples who are looking for advice on building the framework for the most beautiful day of their lives.
